As a Survey Technician with the Department of Transportation, you will play a key part in gathering the data needed to guide engineering and construction decisions. This role gives you the opportunity to learn specialized tools and work closely with a skilled survey team. Your efforts will help shape roadways, structures, and public spaces across the state. This position is ideal for someone who values precision, teamwork, and meaningful field work.
This role centers on supporting survey operations that guide transportation design and construction projects. As a Survey Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Instrument Operation: Set up and operate survey equipment for field measurements
- Elevation Work: Determine ground elevations, grades, and benchmarks using levels and related tools
- GPS Usage: Collect mapping and survey grade point locations through Global Positioning System equipment
- Field Calculations: Perform trigonometry and algebra computations and prepare accurate field notes
- Team Functions: Carry out all major survey team roles using both electronic and conventional tools
- Data Processing: Download and edit electronic survey data for engineering and property use

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Schuylkill Haven. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- This position will cover Schulykill and Lehigh County.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
- Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or
- One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
