We are looking for a talented Senior Buyer and Materials Planning Manager to build and support the U.S. materials planning and procurement execution capability for high-reliability space hardware programs. This role will translate program schedules, engineering releases, bills of material, supplier constraints, and contract manufacturer needs into clear material plans, purchase order execution, shortage visibility, and practical decision support for the U.S. site. The ideal candidate brings strong aerospace, defense, electronics, or high-reliability hardware planning experience, hands-on buying discipline, and the ability to create scalable planning processes in a fast-moving environment.
What you will be doing
- Build and support the U.S. materials planning and tactical procurement function for space hardware programs from early planning through build, test, and delivery.
- Translate program schedules, engineering releases, bills of material, and customer commitments into actionable material plans, purchase requirements, and supplier priorities.
- Develop and run practical operating cadences for clear-to-build reviews, shortage reviews, long-lead material tracking, purchase order status, supplier commits, and material readiness.
- Execute hands-on buying activity for production, engineering, long-lead, high-value, and sole-source materials, including purchase order placement, follow-up, expediting, and supplier coordination.
- Maintain planning and procurement master data, including item records, lead times, sourcing information, supplier records, order policies, and planning assumptions in MRP/ERP/PLM systems.
- Partner with Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, Product Assurance, Quality, Configuration Management, Finance, and contract manufacturers to support BOM maturity, ECN flow, procurement readiness, and program execution.
- Coordinate demand signals and material status with Contract Electronics Manufacturers (CEMs), EMS partners, distributors, and strategic suppliers.
- Identify and communicate material risks related to shortages, lead-time changes, supplier performance, configuration changes, obsolescence, excess inventory, and schedule impacts.
- Support implementation or improvement of MRP/ERP/PLM processes, reporting, dashboards, and data cleanup as the U.S. operation scales.
- Brief leadership and program teams on material readiness, shortage risk, supplier delivery status, and decisions required to support program milestones.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, operations, engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- 8+ years of materials planning, production planning, buying, procurement, scheduling, or supply chain execution experience in aerospace, defense, space, electronics manufacturing, or another high-reliability hardware environment.
- Hands-on experience using MRP/ERP systems to plan demand, release purchase orders, manage shortages, track supplier commitments, and support production or program schedules.
- Strong understanding of BOM-driven planning, item master data, lead times, supplier order policies, purchase order discipline, and material readiness reporting.
- Experience working in high-mix / low-volume or complex hardware environments where engineering changes, long-lead materials, and configuration control affect procurement execution.
- Ability to work across Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality, Configuration Management, Finance, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to resolve material and schedule issues.
- Working knowledge of supplier communication, expediting, PO management, shortage management, receipts, and planning metrics such as clear-to-build, past-due PO status, and supplier on-time delivery.
- Familiarity with AS9100, aerospace/defense customer expectations, or comparable high-reliability manufacturing requirements.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to provide clear status, escalate risks, and drive follow-through in a fast-moving environment.
Advantages
- Direct experience supporting space hardware, satellite electronics, defense electronics, or other mission-critical high-reliability programs.
- Experience transitioning planning or procurement processes from spreadsheets to a more mature MRP/ERP/PLM environment.
- Experience planning material into outsourced manufacturers, Contract Electronics Manufacturers (CEMs), EMS providers, PCB suppliers, or box-build partners.
- Experience procuring or planning EEE parts, printed circuit assemblies, electronic components, long-lead materials, or other space-grade hardware.
- Familiarity with Agile PLM, IFS, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Priority, or comparable planning, procurement, and configuration-management systems.
- APICS/CPIM/CSCP, Lean/Six Sigma, project management, or comparable certification a plus.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Benefits at Ramon.Space include medical, dental, vision, PTO, holidays, FSAs, 401(k) match, short term and long-term disability, and parental leave.
- Flexible hybrid working model with opportunities for remote work. The office is located in the Denver Tech Center.
- Collaborative and innovative work environment. Opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Be part of a pioneering team in the satellite communication industry.
- Due to export regulations, U.S. citizenship or U.S. person status may be required.
