Description
The Tufts University Department of Chemistry is seeking a Part-Time Lecturer to teach Biochemistry II (Chem 172) in Fall 2026. The instructor will be responsible for: two 75-minute in-person lectures per week on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30 PM; weekly office hours for students; weekly meetings with teaching assistants to prepare and review material for recitation sections; and student assessments including assessment design, administration, and evaluation. Chem 172 is an advanced biochemistry course, taught at the graduate level, which is also required for undergraduate Biochemistry majors. The course builds on knowledge and concepts from the prerequisite Biochemistry I course (Chem 171). Topics include signal transduction, secondary carbon metabolism, and the biosynthesis and breakdown pathways of carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, nucleic acids, and proteins, focusing on understanding human metabolism, disorders, diseases, and cellular signaling at the molecular level. Qualifications
Individuals must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry with experience in the field of Biochemistry, broadly defined. Prior teaching experience and/or knowledge of modern teaching practices are preferred. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working closely with students and has concrete plans to support students with a range of educational backgrounds.
