Job Title: Senior Avionics Technician

Job Description

The Senior Avionics Technician provides leadership and advanced technical expertise in the testing, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of avionics, electronic aircraft equipment, and related systems to ensure defect-free aircraft. This role supports operational and functional testing, drives process improvements to reduce cost and meet schedule requirements, and upholds the highest standards of safety and quality. The position also serves as a technical leader, capable of filling in for the team leader to ensure daily work plans are executed effectively and company goals are consistently met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced operational and functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics and aircraft electronic systems to ensure a defect-free aircraft.
  • Provide direct hands-on training and guidance to avionics personnel to support cross-training goals and maintain a safety-conscious, quality-oriented, and skilled workforce.
  • Teach and perform installation and functional testing of electrical and avionics components and systems in accordance with engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals.
  • Ensure the quality and efficiency of all installations by troubleshooting system discrepancies and teaching troubleshooting processes and concepts to support timely, high-quality repairs.
  • Repair or replace defective components and wiring to ensure installations meet conformity requirements, using effective repair techniques including splicing, soldering, and pinning of wiring.
  • Oversee the implementation and compliance of engineering changes and modifications to aircraft systems as required.
  • Set up and operate necessary test equipment and conduct functional and operational tests to evaluate system performance and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and all required documentation, ensuring all work performed on the aircraft is properly and completely recorded.
  • Perform pre-inspections of work completed by others prior to formal inspection to help reduce rework and inspection time.
  • Provide expert knowledge in testing and maintaining test equipment, electronic systems, and components as required.
  • Enforce programs and regulations related to foreign object damage (FOD), tool control, 5-S workplace organization, and all applicable safety standards.
  • Adapt to sudden schedule changes and coordinate effectively with other disciplines and teams to support project requirements.
  • Teach installation and functional testing of electrical and avionics components and systems where required, reinforcing defect-free standards.
  • Perform self-inspection for avionics testing functions in applicable areas to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Support aircraft certification and final phase testing, which may include participation in flight tests as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall aircraft completion and avionics operations.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated superior technical skills and expertise in avionics and aircraft electrical systems operational testing and troubleshooting.
  • Strong ability to install, test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and avionics components and systems using engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals.
  • Proficiency in effective repair techniques for wiring, including splicing, soldering, and pinning, ensuring installations meet conformity standards.
  • Ability to oversee and implement engineering changes and modifications to avionics and electronic systems.
  • Competence in setting up, operating, and maintaining avionics and electronic test equipment, and conducting functional and operational tests.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and schematic diagrams for avionics and electrical systems.
  • Strong documentation skills with diligent compliance in maintaining daily logs and completing all required paperwork accurately.
  • Capability to perform self-inspection of avionics testing functions to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to train, mentor, and guide other technicians in avionics testing, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) years of experience in an avionics/electrical career field, or two (2) years of accredited schooling in aviation electronics plus four (4) years of related experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferred proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of additional aircraft systems beyond avionics, such as hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, environmental controls, structural installations, and auxiliary power units.
  • APU run qualification preferred.
  • Engine run qualification preferred.
  • A & P license preferred.
  • FCC license preferred.
  • NCATT certification preferred.
  • Experience working in aviation, avionics, and avionics electrical systems environments.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and adherence to FOD, tool control, and 5-S programs.

Work Environment

This role is based in an aircraft completion center environment focused on the installation, testing, and certification of avionics and electronic systems. The work involves hands-on tasks in and around aircraft, using specialized avionics and electronic test equipment, and working from engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams. Technicians collaborate closely with multiple disciplines, including structures, hydraulics, flight controls, landing gear, environmental controls, and other aircraft systems. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety regulations, FOD control, tool control, and 5-S workplace organization. Work hours may be influenced by project schedules and sudden changes, requiring flexibility and effective coordination to meet program milestones.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.86 - $37.86/hr.
