The Maintenance Technician performs both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on keeping production equipment running safely and efficiently through preventative and reactive maintenance, while supporting operators with equipment setup and changeovers.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.
- Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment, including gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, chillers, proofers, ovens, and baggers.
- Work safely with electrical systems up to 480V, following all applicable safety procedures and standards.
- Rewire, replace, and install motors, including three-phase AC and DC motors, as needed to support production.
- Assist machine operators with equipment setup, adjustments, and changeovers to support smooth production transitions.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment components.
- Maintain approximately a 60/40 split between mechanical and electrical work, adapting to the needs of the operation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, and related components.
- Diagnose and repair components such as bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and related mechanical assemblies.
- Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and PLC-controlled equipment to support troubleshooting and repairs.
- Assist with PLC troubleshooting on industrial control systems, including Allen-Bradley platforms, to identify control-related issues.
- Support a GMP-style production environment by maintaining equipment cleanliness and reliability in accordance with plant standards.
- Collaborate with a team of maintenance technicians and production staff to prioritize work and resolve issues efficiently.
- Document maintenance activities as required by site procedures and support continuous improvement of maintenance practices.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience performing both mechanical and electrical maintenance, with work split between the two disciplines (approximately 50/50 or 60/40).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, and motors.
- Experience working with electrical systems up to 480V in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work with three-phase power and AC/DC motors, including motor replacement and wiring.
- Practical knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair of associated components.
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) in an industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for production equipment in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working as a maintenance technician in an industrial or logistics setting.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills for equipment repair and modification.
- Familiarity with PLC controls and PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
- Experience working with Allen-Bradley control systems or similar industrial control platforms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a food or GMP-regulated environment, preferably bakery, is a strong plus.
- Previous exposure to a unionized maintenance environment is beneficial.
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled systems beyond basic diagnostics is preferred.
- Experience working with conveyors and automated material handling systems is advantageous.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-throughput production environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with a maintenance team and production staff.
- Ability to adapt to different shifts and training schedules as needed.

Work Environment
Technicians work on-site in a hands-on role around running machinery and standard plant conditions, wearing appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment suitable for an industrial manufacturing setting.
