Warehouse Shipping Receiving Clerk

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shipping & Receiving Clerk to join our team at a growing metal manufacturing company in Elgin, IL. This position is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, storing, and shipping metal products while maintaining inventory accuracy and ensuring timely deliveries. The ideal candidate has previous warehouse or manufacturing experience, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming materials, verify quantities, and inspect shipments for damage or discrepancies.
• Prepare and package outgoing orders according to customer specifications and shipping requirements.
• Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment.
• Accurately complete shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
• Process shipments using ERP systems and shipping software.
• Perform inventory transactions, cycle counts, and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Stage materials for production and customer orders.
• Organize warehouse inventory and maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas.
• Coordinate with production, purchasing, and customer service to ensure timely shipment of orders.
• Inspect packaging to ensure products are protected during transit.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
• Assist with other warehouse duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years of shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Previous experience in a metal manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Forklift experience required (certification is a plus).
• Experience using RF scanners, ERP systems, or inventory management software preferred.
• Ability to read packing slips, shipping documents, and purchase orders accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout an 8-hour shift.
• Comfortable working in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with varying temperatures.
• Ability to safely operate material handling equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience shipping LTL and UPS/FedEx freight.
• Knowledge of inventory control and cycle counting.
• Experience working with metal products, steel, aluminum, or fabricated materials.
• Familiarity with barcode scanners and warehouse management systems.
