Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in a 10-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit from admission through discharge, including discharge planning
  • Care for immediate post-operative open heart surgery patients beginning on the first day of assignment
  • Manage hemodynamically unstable patients across a range of diagnoses including post-PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, and sepsis
  • Operate advanced medical equipment including A-lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IV pumps, and short-term ventilatory support (noninvasive and invasive)
  • Perform skilled cardiac telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
  • Act as a clinical leader, assist with precepting staff, and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision
Required Qualifications
  • Current State of Montana RN licensure
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • Recent open heart recovery nursing experience required — must be prepared to care for immediate post-operative open heart patients on day one
  • Recent critical care experience in a CVICU or equivalent setting
  • Degree from an accredited nursing program
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with a broad scope of cardiac and surgical patient populations including pediatrics
  • Familiarity with expanding cardiac services and higher-acuity critical care environments
