Job Title: CNC Machine Operator
Job Description
The CNC Machine Operator sets up and operates 3-axis vertical machining centers (VMCs) in a high-speed manufacturing or job shop environment. This role focuses on loading parts, running CNC programs, monitoring machining operations, and verifying that all parts meet specifications. The operator performs or supports basic machine setups, interprets tool paths and offsets, uses precision measuring tools to confirm dimensions, and follows established safety and maintenance procedures to keep production running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Operate 3-axis vertical machining centers by loading parts, running CNC programs, and monitoring machining operations to ensure consistent and accurate production.
- Support or perform basic machine setups, including loading tools, setting work offsets, and verifying first-piece quality before releasing jobs to full production.
- Interpret CNC programs, tool paths, offsets, alarms, and program steps to troubleshoot issues and maintain continuous production flow.
- Work with common cutting tools, monitor tool wear, and communicate tooling needs or concerns to leads or programmers in a timely manner.
- Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to verify part dimensions and document inspection results as required.
- Perform routine machine care such as basic cleaning, chip removal, coolant level checks, and reporting maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
- Follow all established safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand part requirements and machining operations.
- Operate related equipment such as lathes, mills, and other machining tools as needed to support production.
- Handle hand tools and shop equipment safely and effectively during setups, adjustments, and minor maintenance tasks.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of experience in a CNC operations role within a high-speed manufacturing environment or job shop.
- Strong knowledge of production machinery, including setup and changeover of CNC equipment such as brake presses and lasers.
- Proficiency in operating 3-axis vertical machining centers and related CNC machines.
- Ability to perform basic CNC setups, including loading tools and setting work offsets.
- Ability to interpret CNC programs, tool paths, offsets, alarms, and program steps.
- Solid understanding of common cutting tools and tool wear characteristics.
- Skill in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with machine operation for vertical machining, mills, and lathes.
- Competence in using hand tools and shop equipment safely.
- High school diploma or GED.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
