Position: Pathologists Assistant/Pathology Technician
Location: Mansfield, OH 44903
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 05:00)
Duration: 13 week
Weekly for 40 hours: $3,246 weekly ($50 per hour on w2 + $1,246 weekly stipend)
Job Summary
The Pathology Technician supports pathologists and laboratory staff by preparing, processing, and handling tissue specimens for examination. This role is responsible for specimen collection, accessioning, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance, safety, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities Duties:
- Receive, label, accession, and process surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens.
- Prepare tissue samples for gross examination and histological processing.
- Embed tissue specimens in paraffin and perform microtomy to prepare tissue sections.
- Perform routine and special staining procedures according to laboratory protocols.
- Assist pathologists during gross examinations and specimen dissection as appropriate.
- Maintain specimen identification and chain of custody to ensure accurate patient results.
- Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Monitor inventory and order laboratory supplies as needed.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures, infection control practices, and OSHA guidelines.
- Document laboratory activities and maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Dispose of biological waste according to regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities.
Experience:
- HS Diploma/GED
- Successful completion of course requirements from an accredited school (ASCP) certification
- 2-3 years post High School training
- Prefer 1-2yrs of experience
- Prefer qualified to gross
- Equipment/Tools Utilized: Leica Microtomes, Peloris processors, Sakura Prisma H&E Stainer, Benchmark Special Stainers. EPIC EMR. Red scrubs.
