Job Overview:
A Medical Technologist (MT) / Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) specializing in Hematology performs complex laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens to assist physicians in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring diseases. This role is responsible for operating laboratory instruments, analyzing test results, ensuring quality control, and maintaining compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex hematology laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens.
- Analyze complete blood counts (CBCs), differential counts, coagulation studies, and other hematology tests.
- Prepare and examine peripheral blood smears using microscopy.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain hematology analyzers and laboratory equipment.
- Verify, interpret, and accurately report laboratory test results.
- Perform quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and proficiency testing.
- Identify abnormal or critical test results and notify physicians or nursing staff promptly.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures, infection control policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Collect, receive, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for testing.
- Perform specimen validation and ensure specimen integrity before testing.
- Document all testing procedures and maintain accurate laboratory records
Required Qualifications:
- 2 years of Medical Technologist experience
ASCP MLS/MLT or equivalent, AMT
