Description\n

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Idaho, requiring 2 years of experience and certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.

  • Acute care hospital Med/Surg unit with 10 beds, expandable to 18
  • \n
  • Diverse patient population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, including typical Med/Surg diagnoses (pneumonia, CHF, COPD, hysterectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy), neonatal/pediatric cases (elevated bilirubin, asthma exacerbation), and swing bed/rehab patients
  • \n
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, averaging 1:5 and up to 1:6 on rare occasions
  • \n
  • Respiratory therapy support available for CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen; RT sets up and monitors equipment (no vents on unit)
  • \n
  • Remote telemetry monitoring available; ability to read tele strips is preferred
  • \n
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • \n
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p
  • \n
  • Weekend requirement: minimum 5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period, with additional weekends possible based on need
  • \n
  • Holiday coverage required based on unit need
  • \n
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • \n
  • Travelers are first to float; floating may include L&D or ED for helping hands coverage
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active Idaho (ID) or Compact RN license required — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • \n
  • Required certifications (all must be active): BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • \n
  • BSN not required
  • \n
  • Epic EMR experience
  • \n
  • Ability to read telemetry strips preferred
  • \n
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration
  • \n
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • \n

  • Unit has a charge nurse each shift; charge nurse may carry a 1:2 patient assignment — travelers may be asked to serve as charge nurse or preceptor
  • \n
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:10 ratio
  • \n
  • Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts on the unit with a preceptor
  • \n
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accommodated
  • \n
  • Former permanent employees of the facility must have been away for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
  • \n
  • Any scrub color and pattern is allowed; facility-provided scrubs are available but not required
  • \n
