Staff Accountant

About this role

Rocky Mountain Financial Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you'll own core general-ledger work, support the month-end and year-end close, prepare financial statements, and help ensure compliance with GAAP. This is a hands-on role for someone who's moved past entry level and is ready to take ownership of recurring close cycles and cross-functional reconciliations.

Key responsibilities

• Own general-ledger activity: prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
• Lead assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close, including account reconciliations and variance analysis
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP
• Perform balance-sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed-asset subledgers
• Assist with revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
• Coordinate with external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit
• Identify and implement improvements to close processes and internal controls
  

What we're looking for

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on month-end close ownership
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Experience preparing account reconciliations and financial statements
• Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas)
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or Sage
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

Preferred qualifications

• CPA or CPA candidate (actively pursuing)
• Experience with revenue recognition under ASC 606
• Public accounting or audit experience
• Experience in a multi-entity or multi-currency environment
• Advanced Excel or financial-reporting tool experience (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Hyperion)
