Job Description
The Material Handler / Forklift Operator ensures a smooth and reliable flow of materials throughout the facility by accurately handling, moving, and recording inventory. This role supports production, planning, and shipping operations by replenishing pick locations, maintaining stock accuracy, and operating forklifts to move materials safely and efficiently. The position is critical to preventing stockouts, avoiding shipment delays, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Identify and replenish production pick locations in a timely manner to prevent stockouts and maintain continuous production flow.
- Empty compactors and scrap bins, consolidate pallets, and ensure material storage areas remain organized and safe.
- Maintain consistent material flow with minimal disruption to production activities across multiple departments.
- Receive and stock raw components from completed jobs, ensuring materials are stored in the correct locations.
- Verify product quality and quantity when receiving, stocking, and moving materials to support accurate inventory records.
- Enter inventory transactions into manufacturing software systems with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Perform regular cycle counts and enter corrections into manufacturing software to keep inventory records current and precise.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies by collaborating with production teams and reviewing transaction history.
- Verify counts before filling pick locations to ensure production has the correct quantities and to prevent shortages or overages.
- Calibrate scales and weigh materials to validate quantities and adjust finished goods inventory upon job completion.
- Inspect materials for quality and verify quantities before recording inventory transactions in the system.
- Operate sit-down forklifts to safely move materials between departments, racks, carts, and trailers.
- Load and unload trailers, racks, and carts while following safe material handling practices.
- Provide responsive material handling support to meet operational demands and production schedules.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and support production flow to minimize errors that could cause shipment delays, customer dissatisfaction, returns, or financial discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively with production, planning, and shipping teams to coordinate material movements and resolve issues.
- Proven experience in warehouse operations with a focus on material handling and inventory control.
- Hands-on forklift operating experience, specifically with sit-down forklifts, including safe loading, unloading, and material movement.
- Strong understanding of inventory processes, including receiving, stocking, cycle counting, and discrepancy resolution.
- Ability to use manufacturing or ERP software systems to enter and manage inventory transactions accurately.
- Experience in packing and handling materials in a warehouse or production environment.
- Knowledge of shipping and material flow processes within a warehouse or manufacturing facility.
- Attention to detail when verifying product quality and quantity to ensure accurate records and minimize errors.
- Ability to calibrate scales and weigh materials to confirm quantities and support accurate finished goods inventory.
- Previous experience in a climate-controlled warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with working across production, planning, and shipping departments to support overall operational efficiency.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with production teams when investigating and resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Basic computer proficiency for working with inventory and manufacturing software systems.
- Organizational skills to maintain clean, well-arranged material storage and handling areas.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.87 - $24.00/hr.
