Job Title: Senior Press Brake Operator – 3rd Shift
Job Description
The Senior Press Brake Operator programs and sets up parts from engineering prints to produce prototypes and production components. This role consults with department leads to modify and optimize CNC programs, develops and improves forming processes, and supports the growth of junior operators through hands-on training. The position operates primarily on 3rd shift in a modern manufacturing facility and plays a key role in ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety in sheet metal fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Program parts from engineering prints to produce prototypes and production runs using press brake equipment.
- Select appropriate tooling, dies, and machine settings to form complex sheet metal parts to specification.
- Follow detailed work instructions and read drawings to properly position and secure material and machinery.
- Edit, store, and create CNC programs based on engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to achieve accurate bends and dimensions.
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, gauges, tape measures, and other measuring tools to verify tolerances and quality standards.
- Consult with department leads to review, modify, and improve CNC programs and forming processes as needed.
- Develop and refine processes for the press brake department to increase efficiency, repeatability, and quality.
- Provide hands-on training, coaching, and guidance to Press Brake Helpers and Operators, including troubleshooting machine and process issues.
- Assist in evaluating junior-level operators and provide feedback to support their development.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning tools, checking hydraulic oil levels, and reporting issues that require service.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to prevent accidents.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures while working around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Meet production schedules by demonstrating a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and departmental goals.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of experience as a press brake operator or in a closely related metal fabrication role.
- Strong experience operating press brakes and related fabrication equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of shop mathematics, including geometry and fractions for bending calculations.
- Familiarity with CNC controller interfaces for programming and editing press brake operations.
- Ability to interpret and work from 3D CAD-based drawings and models for part setup and programming.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, gauges, and tape measures to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs using proper ergonomic techniques.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to six or more hours per day) and perform repetitive tasks safely.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and reliability in meeting production deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively on 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with CNC press brake programming for prototypes and complex parts.
- Background in sheet metal fabrication, including forming, shearing, and punching operations.
- Experience with shear and punch press operations in a fabrication environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot forming issues and recommend adjustments to tooling, programs, or processes.
- Comfort working with interactive work instructions and diagrams to guide setup and production.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with leads, peers, and junior operators.

Work Environment
This role is based in a modern manufacturing facility in Binghamton, NY, working on 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The environment includes exposure to heavy equipment, press brakes, CNC machinery, and typical industrial noise levels. You will spend most of the shift standing and performing hands-on fabrication tasks, with some duties requiring short periods of sitting. The position involves lifting up to 50 lbs using proper ergonomic techniques and working around sheet metal, fabrication tools, and measuring equipment. The facility is well kept, with excellent lighting and interactive, visual work instructions available in each department to support safe, efficient work. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and the work area is maintained in a clean and organized condition to promote safety and productivity.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Binghamton, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
