Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description

The Maintenance Technician installs, adjusts, and repairs production equipment, heavy trucks, and special purpose machinery to keep operations running safely and efficiently. This role performs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic maintenance, conducts troubleshooting and preventive repairs, and supports the overall reliability of plant equipment and structures in a busy industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, adjust, and repair production equipment, heavy trucks, and special purpose machines as assigned.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools to repair, grease, weld, cut, change parts, and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Use cutting torches, welding equipment, and fabrication tools as required to repair and modify equipment.
  • Perform general repairs to plant structures to maintain a safe and functional facility.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards to support safe operations.
  • Test and troubleshoot malfunctioning machinery, determine required repairs, and coordinate repair plans with the Head Mechanic or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Replace faulty parts, electrical wires, motors, controls, and circuit boards to restore proper equipment function.
  • Install equipment and electrical components and test systems to ensure proper operation and performance.
  • Dismantle equipment using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools to access and remove defective parts.
  • Replace and install mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic parts as needed to maintain equipment reliability.
  • Lubricate, clean, and service parts and equipment on a regular basis to support preventive maintenance and minimize downtime.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair on PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation equipment as needed.
  • Support industrial maintenance activities across the plant, including maintenance and repair of tools, machinery, and related equipment as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Head Mechanic.
  • Carry out welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify equipment and plant structures.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks on production equipment and related systems to reduce breakdowns.
  • Follow all safety procedures when working around dangerous equipment, loud noise, and variable lighting conditions.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job as assigned on a temporary or permanent basis.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and industrial systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production equipment and related systems.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance in a manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Proficiency in welding, cutting, and fabrication to repair and modify equipment and structures.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of hand and power tools, including cutting torches, hoists, cranes, and related equipment.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including motors, controls, circuit boards, and wiring replacement.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow repair instructions and maintenance procedures.
  • Capability to work safely around loud noise, dangerous equipment, and variable lighting conditions.
  • Physical ability to dismantle, move, and install equipment and parts using appropriate tools and lifting devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to perform general repairs to plant structures in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Comfort working in dirty, dusty, hot, and cold conditions typical of a concrete plant.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a small team of technicians across different shifts.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, rotating Saturdays, and 12-hour shifts as required by production and maintenance schedules.
  • Commitment to following safety policies and procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Adaptability to handle a variety of maintenance tasks and priorities as assigned.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate repair needs and solutions clearly.

Work Environment

This role is based in a concrete manufacturing plant with a dirty, indoor/outdoor environment that can be loud, dusty, hot, and cold. You work in a maintenance and production setting with ambient air conditions, loud noise, dangerous equipment, and variable lighting, following strict safety procedures and lockout practices. The maintenance team consists of approximately 5–7 technicians across shifts, fostering a close-knit, collaborative environment. The dress code is practical and safety-focused, typically a T-shirt, jeans, and steel-toe footwear. Shifts are 12 hours, running 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., with maintenance coverage Monday through Saturday, including rotating Saturdays, and an average of about 60 hours per week. Monday is typically a non-production preventive maintenance day, while production runs Tuesday through Saturday, with night shifts being especially critical to operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
