Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports three primary areas of the production floor—Frozen, Cooked, and Packaging—by setting up production lines, responding to maintenance calls, and performing preventive maintenance using a computerized maintenance management system. This role focuses heavily on diagnosing, realigning, and repairing complex meat slicing equipment and related control systems, ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and robotic systems operate safely and efficiently in a food production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and prepare production lines in the Frozen, Cooked, and Packaging areas for daily operations.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance calls and troubleshoot issues to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled through the Fiix CMMS system.
  • Realign, diagnose, and repair meat slicing machines on grill lines, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and repair control panels containing PLCs, transformers, drives, servo drives, and Honeywell burner controls.
  • Work with large electrical cabinets that house multiple drives and servo drives, ensuring proper function and safety.
  • Use a laptop to diagnose PLCs and drives and load programs from the server into drives and PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical systems ranging from 24V to 480V, following appropriate safety practices.
  • Remove, diagnose, and replace motors and servo motors as needed to restore equipment operation.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, shafts, chain sprockets, and conveyor components.
  • Support maintenance of wrapping machines on the cooked side, addressing frequent issues to keep lines running.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot robotic production lines that include Codian robots for suction applications and Fanuc robots for palletizing.
  • Work with electromagnetic track systems, light curtains, photo eyes, sensors, pneumatics, and hydraulics on automated lines.
  • Use HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) to adjust parameters on robotic and automated lines.
  • Perform infrequent but critical maintenance on the flash freezing room and boiler systems.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately in the Fiix CMMS and follow established maintenance procedures.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and leads on the shift to prioritize work and share technical knowledge.
  • Support yearly shutdown activities by performing comprehensive maintenance across the facility for the full seven-day period.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of electro-mechanical maintenance experience working with electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret ladder logic in PLCs for troubleshooting and adjustments.
  • Experience pulling programs from a server and loading them into drives and PLCs.
  • Strong mechanical experience with hands-on maintenance experience on motors and gearboxes.
  • Proficiency working with Allen-Bradley equipment, including Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience with PowerFlex drives, including PowerFlex 525 drives.
  • Experience with Ultra 3000 and Kinetix 5500 servo motors.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, particularly Fanuc robots and Codian robots.
  • Experience in conveyor maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Fiix CMMS for managing work orders and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work safely with servo motors and associated control systems.
  • Comfort working on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in an industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a food production or similarly regulated environment with strict sanitation and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with Honeywell burner controls and large multi-drive control cabinets.
  • Experience with electromagnetic track systems, light curtains, photo eyes, and various sensors.
  • Ability to use HMIs to adjust machine and robotic parameters.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in both electrical and mechanical domains.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-technician team on a production shift.
  • Comfort working overnight on a third shift schedule and occasional weekend work.
  • Willingness to participate in extended maintenance activities during yearly facility shutdowns.

Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from a supportive environment that values reliability, skill development, and teamwork, with structured time-off and strong benefits that promote long-term stability. Team members receive three personal days after 90 days of employment, two weeks of vacation starting in the second year, and additional vacation in the fifth year. A 401(k) plan with a 4% match supports long-term financial planning, and comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage helps maintain overall well-being. The facility offers consistent exposure to advanced automation and control technologies, providing opportunities to grow technical expertise and build a rewarding career in a modern, well-organized production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled food production facility that follows strict sanitation and safety practices, including the use of beard and hair nets, smocks, and hand washing stations before entering new areas. Maintenance technicians work as part of a team of six technicians and two leads on each shift, supporting continuous production operations. Team members are expected to provide their own slip-resistant shoes as part of the dress code. The position operates on third shift, typically from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with work scheduled on two Saturdays per month and participation in a yearly shutdown during which maintenance staff work the entire seven-day period. The environment features advanced technologies such as PowerFlex 525 drives, Ultra 3000 and Kinetix 5500 servo motors, Codian and Fanuc robots, electromagnetic track systems, and extensive conveyor and automation equipment, all managed through the Fiix CMMS platform.
