Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Swing Bed position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring active NE or Compact licensure and night shift availability.

Details
  • Position is located in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) on a Med/Tele Swing Bed unit with 10 beds
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with occasional pediatric patients; common diagnoses include swing bed patients requiring IV antibiotics, therapy, or wound care, as well as medical patients with conditions such as diabetes, pancreatitis, and pneumonia
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4; CNAs/patient care techs are available with a 1:8 ratio
  • A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); day shifts also available (0630–1900)
  • Self-scheduling is offered with manager approval
  • Weekend requirement: at least every 3rd weekend, sometimes every other
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis per unit needs
  • Travelers may float to the ED as backup support during high-volume periods
  • Epic EMR is used in this position
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted
  • A valid driver's license is required for consideration and is used to verify the candidate's permanent address
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as determined by the address on their driver's license
  • Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health; those previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
Additional Information
  • RNs are required to take a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation on Friday; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 days
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result to contract termination
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • The unit emphasizes a small-team, family-feel culture with strong teamwork across the unit and ancillary departments — a willingness to jump in wherever needed is highly valued
