Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • STNA, Medical Assistant, EMT, or equivalent required OR current RN/LPN/Respiratory Therapy student. 
  • Direct Care Experience preferred
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Valid Driver’s License, good driving record and auto insurance
  • Able to pass criminal background, drug test and physical


Job Summary:

The Medical Technician is a specialized direct support position responsible for providing hands-on support, enhanced clinical observation, respiratory support, and medication administration for individuals with complex medical needs. This role combines traditional direct support responsibilities with advanced skill-based competencies designed to promote health stability, early identification of medical concerns, and improved quality of care.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support and personal care in accordance with each individual's care plans.
  • Assist with activities of daily living while promoting dignity, independence, and safety.
  • Support individuals with meals, dietary needs, feeding protocols, and mobility assistance.
  • Monitor and report changes in health, behavior, respiratory status, and overall well-being.
  • Provide respiratory support, including breathing treatments, suctioning, pulse oximetry, and equipment care, as trained.
  • Safely use adaptive, medical, and respiratory equipment and report equipment concerns.
  • Administer medications in accordance with certification and Sunshine Communities policies.
  • Assist with medical appointments and collaborate with nursing, respiratory, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Complete accurate documentation, incident reports, and required clinical records.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety procedures.
  • Mentor and train Direct Support Professionals while modeling safe, person-centered care.
  • Maintain required certifications, attend trainings, and follow all Sunshine Communities policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support individuals served.
