The purpose of this position is to provide intervention services, advocacy, and support for victims and their families affected by Murdered and Missing Indigenous People. The To’Kee Skuy’ Soo Ney-Wo-Chek’ MMIP Victim Advocate will be responsible for collaborating with other programs and services within the local community while maintaining and ensuring the confidentiality and safety of clients. The To’Kee Skuy’ Soo Ney-Wo-Chek’ MMIP Victim Advocate will also provide advocacy services to victims and their families in accessing services available to them including the legal system, both tribal and/or State, and both criminal and/or civil.
Position Duties1. Provide on-call services to individuals who contact the programs through the 24/7 tip line (888) YRK-MMIP.
2. Maintain and keep up-to-date information in the Yurok MMIP Database.
3. Work in collaboration with other Yurok departments, Yurok programs as well as external victim services providers.
4. Assist victims to access resources available to them including shelters, counseling, medical services, law enforcement, restraining orders, and the legal system.
5. Assist clients with the preparation of forms, such as requests for protective orders and applications for services.
6. Prepare basic notes for the Project Manager for reporting and tracking purposes.
7. Develop working relationships with agencies and organizations that provide services to victims and those affected by MMIP.
8. Coordinate holistic healing services including culturally centered programs, art activities, yoga, and mindful meditation for victims and those affected by MMIP.
9. Process program invoices, travel, and purchases through Microix, Inc.
10. Attend department meetings and other required meetings and training as needed.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. G6: High school diploma or GED with four years of job specified experience.
2. G7: High school diploma or GED with five years of job specified experience.
3. G8: High school diploma or GED with six years of job specified experience.
4. Employees must be willing to acquire any special certifications or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or become required of the position in the future.
5. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint applications.
2. English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and a variety of letter and report formats to prepare correspondence and reports.
3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. This person should be able to express oneself clearly and concisely for correspondence, reports, instructions, etc., as well as for obtaining information or conveying messages between the supervisor and other staff members.
4. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

This position requires compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Public Law 101-630; 25 Code of Federal Regulations Part 63 - Indian child Protection and Family Violence Prevention; Crime Control Act of 1990, Employee Background Checks; and Executive Order 12968, Adjudicative Guidelines.
7. Position could require travel and occasional work outside of regular work schedule.
