Job Title: School Nurse
Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction, Grand Junction CO
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Family Engagement
Work Hours/Days: Part-time to full-time possibilities (8-40 hours per week with higher
demand at the start of the school year) school days, Monday through Friday.
Position Summary
The School Nurse at Ascent Classical Academy plays a vital role in supporting the health and
well-being of students and staff. This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive health
services to students, maintaining health records, and promoting a healthy school environment.
Essential Functions:
● Provide direct nursing care to students, including assessing, treating, and monitoring
health concerns
● Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and maintain accurate medication
logs
● Develop and implement individualized health care plans for students with chronic
illnesses or specific health needs
● Respond to health emergencies and provide first aid as necessary
● Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student health issues
● Conduct health screenings and monitor immunization records to ensure compliance with
school health policies
● Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including illness
prevention and healthy lifestyle practices
● Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with state and federal
regulations
● Manage inventory of supplies and ensure the health office is well-stocked and
organized
● Communicate with guardians regarding students' health concerns, illnesses,
or injuries. Provide information and guidance on school health policies
● Work alongside teachers and school staff to promote health and wellness initiatives
aligned with the classical education model
● Partner with teachers, staff, and administration to support students' overall well-being
and accommodate health-related needs in the classroom as appropriate
● Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours,
reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure
minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
● Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state
● Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred) or a related field
● Experience working as a nurse, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students,
parents, and staff
● Ability to handle emergencies and make quick, informed decisions
● Knowledge of relevant health regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA
● CPR and First Aid certification
● Professional, calm, and empathetic, with a strong commitment to the health and
well-being of students
● Ability to support Ascent's mission and classical education values by fostering a
nurturing and orderly health environment
● Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter
Schools of Colorado
● Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to move quickly and respond to various locations within the school building. This
includes walking, standing, bending, and occasional crouching or kneeling, particularly
when administering first aid or assisting students on the floor
● Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently, and occasionally assist with
moving students or equipment in emergency situations. This may include lifting or
supporting students with mobility issues
● Capacity to handle periods of standing and moving throughout the school day, along
with the ability to maintain energy and focus during busy times or health-related
incidents
● Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
● Proficiency in handling small medical items and administering medication. Precise
manual dexterity is essential for tasks like applying bandages, administering medication,
and using medical equipment
