The Marleta Chadwick Student Financial Advisor supports peers by providing guidance on budgeting, saving, credit management, and responsible financial decision-making. This role focuses on helping students build practical money skills through one-on-one support, workshops, and resource sharing. This role helps students develop lifelong financial skills, reduce financial stress, and make informed decisions about their money.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Enrollment as a full-time student is required. Must have basic understanding of personal finance principles. Completion of FINC 3369 is preferred. Academic financial planning concentration declaration is preferred.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided. Experience using budgeting tools or apps is preferred. Experience in public speaking or workshop facilitation is preferred. Experience in leadership or peer mentoring background is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Offers peer-to-peer guidance on budgeting, saving, and basic financial planning.
- Educates students on topics such as credit scores, debt management, and student loans.
- Assists students in creating personalized budgets and financial goals.
- Leads workshops, presentations, or group discussions on financial literacy topics.
- Shares reliable financial resources and tools with students.
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism when discussing personal finances.
- Stays informed on current financial trends, tools, and student-related financial issues .
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.

Work may be completed on campus or in a virtual setting. Flexible hours are available based on student availability.
Other QualificationsA student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
