    Join the 2026 Camp Laurel Staff!

     

    We are looking for dependable, energetic people to join our team, on a full-time and part-time basis, to help our campers have an engaging and entertaining summer.  All camp staff provide direct supervision to students and play a vital role in developing a positive, safe, and engaging camp experience for every camper.  Preference will be given to educators, assistants, ESP staff, those studying education, and those with supervisory experience.

     

    HEAD COUNSELOR

     

    Serves as the individual in charge of their assigned group and is overall responsible for the group's safety and activities.

    • Supervision: Acts as the primary point-person for all staff and Counselors in Training (CITs) assigned to their group.
    • Planning: Responsible for creating and submitting a Weekly Agenda (activity plans) to the administration every Friday.
    • Operations: Ensures all daily tasks are completed, including taking attendance multiple times a day, maintaining the "Where Are You" board, and ensuring the group is ready for scheduled activity times.
    • Leadership: Manages student discipline within the group and must report major incidents or injuries to camp administration or the nurse.
    • Schedule: Typically scheduled for 8 hours per day, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

    Payscale: 

    Up to $20/hr with experience or certification

    CIT (Counselor-In- Training) Head Counselor

     

    • Supervision: Acts as the primary point-person for Counselors in Training (CITs).
    • Planning: Responsible for working with Counselors in Training (CITs) to ensure proper placement in camp groups.
    • Operations: Monitor and evaluate Counselors in Training (CITs) for performance.
    • Leadership: Fosters Counselors in Training (CITs) skills and participation in group through a variety of methods.
    • Schedule: Typically scheduled for 8 hours per day, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

    Payscale: 

    Up to $20/hr with experience or certification

    ASSISTANT COUNSELOR

     

    Operates under the direction of the Head Counselor and supports the group.

    • Supervision: Supervises groups of students, both with the Head Counselor in the room and when the Head Counselor is not present.  Works directly with students to keep them engaged and supervised.
    • Planning: Shares responsibility for supervising children at all times, including during pool time, playground use, and transitions between activities. All group members are encouraged to help plan and facilitate activities.
    • Operations: Ensures communication with Head Counselor so that daily tasks are completed, the "Where Are You" board is updated, and the group is ready for scheduled activity times.
    • Leadership: Reports directly to the Head Counselor.
    • Schedule: Typically staggered schedule for 8 hours per day to cover the programs occurring during the camp day.

    Payscale: 

    Up to $17.50/hr with experience

    JUNIOR COUNSELOR

     

    Operates under the direction of the Head Counselor and supports the group

    • Supervision: Works directly with students to keep them engaged and supervised. Does not supervise a group without a Head Counselor or Assistant Counselor present or be responsible for handling disciplinary issues.
    • Planning: Implements plans created by the Head Counselor.  Encouraged to create and try activities as well.
    • Operations: Assists the staff in various ways and focuses on interacting with campers to keep them engaged.
    • Leadership: Works under the guidance of the Head Counselor and Assistant Counselor.
    • Schedule: Typically staggered schedule for 8 hours per day to cover the programs occurring during the camp day.

    Payscale: 

    $16.00/hr

    1:1 AIDE

     

    Supervise designated child and ensures their specific needs are met throughout the camp day

    • Supervision: Must maintain close proximity to their assigned student(s) to ensure needs are met and encourage participation in activities.
    • Planning: Coordinates with Camp staff to meet student needs and encourage participation.
    • Operations: Assists their assigned student in various ways to keep them engaged and participating in Camp functions.
    • Leadership: Works in conjunction with Head Counselor and Camp Administration.
    • Schedule: Typically scheduled for hours that meet the needs of their assigned camper.

    Payscale: 

    Up to $17.50/hr with experience

    CAMP NURSE

     

    Coordinates Camp Laurel medical program, handles all medical concerns, and provides first aid for injuries.

    • Supervision: Works directly with Camp staff to facilitate all medical and programming needs.
    • Planning: Coordinates with Camp staff and families to meet district and legal requirements for medical items at camp. Works to ensure that all medical concerns are handled as needed.
    • Operations: Ensures all daily tasks and Camp medical items are completed, including daily medications and family communications.
    • Leadership: Works in conjunction with Camp Admin
    • Schedule: Typically scheduled for 8 hours per day to cover the programs occurring during the camp day.
    • Must hold valid NJ School Nurse certification or equivalent

    Payscale: 

    Up to $33.00/hr with experience

     

     

    Hours and role will be determined by camp administration and programming needs.

     

    Duties, activities and responsibilities expected of all Camp Laurel staff members include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    • Complete NJSA and NJDOE required fingerprinting and background check (at employee cost).
    • Supervise and engage 15-25 campers.
    • Create and facilitate engaging experiences for campers such as games, crafts, activities, and sports.
    • Be present at assigned locations, including with the group throughout the day.
    • Must be able to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors during the summer.
    • May be required to be in and around the swimming pool with students.
    • May be required to become CPR certified.
    • May be required to become Epi-pen delegate.
    • Display proper conduct and a professional attitude at camp.
    • Understand and comply with rules, regulations, and policies of Camp Laurel, the Mount Laurel School District and the State of New Jersey, including, but not limited to, those regarding harassment, bullying, and social media use.
    • Report illnesses, accidents and behavior concerns to camp administration promptly.
    • Report cases of lost, damaged, or stolen property to camp administration promptly.
    • Members of the staff of Camp Laurel are under the direction of camp administration, the Supervisor of Community Education, all district administration and the Mt. Laurel Board of Education.
    • Follow the guidelines provided by Camp Laurel administration, including but not limited to, those in the Staff Handbook.
