Location: Skokie, IL
Shift: 8am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday
Pay: $28 - $32 (Willing to negotiate based on experience)

About the Company
Our client is a growing custom packaging manufacturer that produces high-quality paper tubes and specialty packaging for premium consumer brands in the liquor, fragrance, cosmetics, and retail industries.
Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Setup & Maintenance Mechanic to support their production operations by performing machine setups, troubleshooting equipment, and completing preventative maintenance on specialized paper tube manufacturing machinery. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys diagnosing mechanical issues, improving equipment performance, and helping keep production running efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial manufacturing equipment and possess strong mechanical aptitude. Experience with machining, welding, and fabrication is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform machine setups on paper tube manufacturing and packaging equipment.
- Set up and maintain equipment including:
- Tube Labelers
- Re-cutters
- Can Seamers
- Curl Machines
- Disc Machines
- Recutting Machines
- (Training provided on company-specific equipment.)
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform repairs to minimize downtime.
- Monitor machine performance and make mechanical adjustments as needed.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and routine servicing according to maintenance schedules.
- Occasionally operate more complex production machinery when needed.
- Fabricate or modify replacement parts using manual machining equipment when necessary.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication repairs on equipment and machine components.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work closely with production staff to ensure efficient operation and minimize production interruptions.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance, machine setup, or mechanical repair experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance on industrial equipment.
- Ability to read measuring tools and mechanical drawings is preferred.
- Welding and metal fabrication experience is a plus.
- Experience in packaging, printing, paper converting, or paper tube manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Experience operating or setting up printing presses, finishing equipment, or packaging machinery is also highly valued.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the shift.
- Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Comfortable working around industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment.
