Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) to join our Adult Psychiatric Unit in an acute care hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of psychiatric patient care experience and be committed to providing compassionate, safe, and high-quality care to adult behavioral health patients. This role requires excellent observation skills, teamwork, and the ability to manage challenging situations using de-escalation techniques.
Responsibilities
· Provide direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
· Perform routine safety rounds and 15-minute patient observations.
· Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
· Obtain and document vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and patient weights.
· Perform phlebotomy (prior experience required).
· Assist with one-to-one patient observation.
· Support nursing staff with patient care and unit responsibilities.
· Utilize approved de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment.
· Assist during behavioral emergencies while following hospital protocols.
· Maintain accurate documentation using Allscripts EMR.
Minimum Qualifications
· Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) through AAH
· BLS Certification (AHA)
· Hospital De-escalation Training (or willingness to complete required facility training)
· Minimum 1 year of recent psychiatric patient care experience
· Previous experience with phlebotomy
· Strong communication, teamwork, and patient observation skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working with adult behavioral health populations.
· Knowledge of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, and other psychiatric conditions.
· Experience providing one-to-one observation and behavioral crisis support.
