Job Description
We are seeking an experienced CNC Setup Machinist to join a growing advanced manufacturing team producing precision components for a variety of industries. This position is ideal for a highly skilled machinist who enjoys working independently, solving complex machining challenges, and contributing to continuous process improvements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC equipment while ensuring production quality, efficiency, and adherence to engineering requirements. Key Responsibilities- Prepare, set up, and operate CNC machining centers for production and prototype work.
- Install tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices according to manufacturing requirements.
- Develop and revise CNC programs using G-code and CAM software.
- Verify machine setups and perform machine calibrations before production runs.
- Conduct first-piece inspections and validate dimensional compliance.
- Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements to ensure accurate part production.
- Adjust tooling strategies, cutting conditions, and machining parameters to improve efficiency and part quality.
- Create custom workholding solutions and fixtures for specialized machining applications.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor production processes and make adjustments to maintain quality standards.
- Maintain organized manufacturing documentation and digital program records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing setup times and increasing productivity.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with diagnosing equipment issues.
- Mentor and support machine operators with setup techniques and troubleshooting guidance.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace in accordance with 5S principles.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of CNC setup, machining, and programming experience.
- Strong understanding of CNC machine operation and setup procedures.
- Experience creating and editing programs using G-code.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Working knowledge of GD&T concepts and precision measurement techniques.
- Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
- 7+ years of CNC machining experience in a production environment.
- Technical school certification, machining apprenticeship, or related associate degree.
- Advanced GD&T proficiency.
- Experience with CAM systems such as Mastercam, ESPRIT, Fusion 360, or similar platforms.
- Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma training.
- Forklift certification or experience operating material-handling equipment.
- Experience machining complex, tight-tolerance components.
