American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Labor & Delivery (L&D) travel assignment in Redding, CA, requiring active CA licensure and relevant OB certifications for a night shift position in a Level II Trauma, acute care hospital with a Level III NICU.
Details- Work setting is an acute care hospital Family Birth Center with 12 L&D beds, 19 postpartum beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU
- Patient population includes low and high-risk deliveries; babies with known congenital defects requiring immediate surgery are transferred out
- Patient ratios follow California state mandated ratios (1:4 to 1:1)
- Charting is done in Cerner EMR and Fetal Link for fetal heart monitoring (FHM) surveillance; Philips system used for FHM
- 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Every other weekend required; weekend shifts fall on Fri/Sat nights
- First to float; floating may include Postpartum (couplets) to Peds, or NICU limited to feeders and growers for candidates with applicable experience
- A laborist (OB physician) is in-house 24/7; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy are available 24/7
- Hospital provides scrubs
- No IV team; no ventilators; no telemetry monitoring
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact/NLC) currently in hand — pending licenses will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
- Required certifications (all must be active; no pending certifications accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN)
- COVID vaccination required
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or per diem) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Candidates must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia (Relias) exam prior to offer confirmation, as well as an on-site Pass/Fail sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
- Orientation is 2–3 shifts depending on whether the candidate can circulate in the OR; OR circulating is not required
- Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
- Travelers are expected to work in with the unit team under the oversight of a Clinical Supervisor (available 6–7 days/week) and a Nurse Manager (Mon–Fri); OB Techs handle scrubbing and desk coverage
- Peak census periods are typically in July and October
