About the Role:

As a Lead Welder, you will be responsible for welding and fabricating metal components to assemble structural forms. You will work with a team of professionals to ensure that all welding projects are completed on time and to the highest quality standards. Your attention to detail and ability to read and interpret blueprints will be essential in this role. You will also be responsible for maintaining welding equipment and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine welding requirements
  • Operate welding equipment to weld metal components
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures
  • Maintain welding equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed
  • Collaborate with other leads/management to complete projects on time and to the highest quality standards
  • Coordinate with management/supply chain on ordering shop consumables and supplies
  • Keep track of raw material needed for projects
  • Track production output needs on a daily/weekly/and monthly basis
  • Work with quality team to resolve and solve any quality issues.
  • Record information on products inspected and work orders. Mark defective parts or products for repair and bring to the attention of the supervisor
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs
  • Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines such as shears, saws, plate rolls, drills, brakes, punch presses, computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment, and other hand tools to cut, bend, roll, ream, punch and drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products
  • Inspection/Quality Assurance
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of lead role experience in welding/manufacturing preferred
  • Completion of a welding program or equivalent experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Experience operating welding equipment
  • Knowledge of welding safety protocols
  • Certification in welding/must be able to pass D1.1 Structural Certification
  • Experience with MIG welding and oxy/fuel cutting processes
  • Experience with metal fabrication
  • Ability to operate other metalworking equipment
  • Ability to operate forklift and other lifting equipment

Physical Demands:

  • Use of hands/fingers or feel during normal job requirements.
  • Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while working on equipment.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. (and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.)
  • Be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions (extreme heat and cold).
  • Required to work in areas of extreme temperatures due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Ability to climb various equipment and ladders, lift and carry equipment, tools and components weighing up to 50 lbs.
