Patient Services Specialist


About the Role

We are seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Patient Services Specialist to join our healthcare team. This position serves as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and payment collection. The ideal candidate will be comfortable discussing financial responsibilities with patients and have experience working in a fast-paced medical office environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and register patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Prepare and process paperwork required for patient visits.
  • Collect, verify, and accurately enter patient demographics and insurance information into electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Schedule appointments and manage incoming phone calls.
  • Direct calls to appropriate departments and assist with patient inquiries.
  • Collect co-pays, co-insurance payments, and outstanding balances.
  • Post charges and perform cashiering duties as assigned.
  • Process requests for medical records in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Coordinate completion of FMLA and disability paperwork as requested.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure timely claim processing.
  • Support front-office operations while delivering outstanding patient experiences.


Qualifications


Required:

  • Previous experience in a medical office, healthcare reception, patient registration, or patient services role.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to confidently discuss insurance benefits and patient financial responsibilities.
  • Basic understanding of medical insurance and billing processes.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry.


Preferred:

  • Experience using Epic or other EMR/EHR systems.
  • Experience in patient registration, insurance verification, or medical scheduling.
