Job Summary
The Clean Energy Engineer is responsible for conducting technical reviews and engineering assessments of energy efficiency, demand management, and energy conservation projects within Commercial and Industrial (C&I) energy efficiency programs. This role evaluates project designs, analyzes technical data, and provides engineering guidance to internal teams, contractors, and customers to support the implementation of energy-efficient technologies. The Clean Energy Specialist also leads process improvement initiatives, performs site assessments, and supports the development of tools and methodologies that enhance program effectiveness and customer experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of complex energy efficiency and demand management projects.
- Evaluate project specifications, design documents, and technical data to ensure compliance with program requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and best practices.
- Prepare technical reports detailing findings, recommendations, and project assessments for program teams and stakeholders.
- Provide engineering guidance and technical support to internal teams, contractors, vendors, and customers.
- Advise customers on technical requirements and incentive eligibility for prescriptive and custom energy efficiency projects.
- Participate in meetings with project teams, contractors, stakeholders, and engineering professionals.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Excel-based energy savings calculators and analytical tools to standardize energy savings estimates.
- Conduct site visits to verify equipment installation, evaluate operational parameters, and assess the technical viability of proposed projects.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies and provide engineering assessments, feasibility analyses, and recommendations regarding potential adoption.
- Collaborate with quality assurance and quality control teams to review findings, address technical discrepancies, and implement program improvements.
- Lead the development of new engineering processes and continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency, improve quality, and enhance customer experience.
- Support project management activities, including coordinating project scope, schedules, and deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
- Perform additional engineering tasks and assignments as required to support energy efficiency program objectives.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience focused on energy efficiency programs required.
- Experience performing technical reviews and energy analyses of projects required.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating deliverables among multiple stakeholders required.
- Familiarity with New York State Technical Resource Manual (TRM), ASHRAE standards, International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and related energy codes required.
- Proficiency in energy modeling, bin analysis, and complex engineering calculations required.
- Experience using energy modeling and simulation software, including eQUEST, DOE-2, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, OpenStudio, TREAT, NEO, IES VE, Carrier HAP, or similar platforms preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of building envelope systems and building equipment, including HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, air handling units, motors, variable frequency drives, and building management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, customers, and external stakeholders.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field preferred.
