State Regulatory Attorney (West Virginia / Maryland)
Our client, a large investor-owned electric utility serving customers across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, is seeking a State Regulatory Attorney to support its regulatory practice in West Virginia and/or Maryland. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with business leaders, experienced utility attorneys, and outside counsel on a broad range of regulatory matters before state public utility commissions and appellate courts.

What You'll Do:
• Handle legal and regulatory matters before the West Virginia and/or Maryland public utility commissions and appellate courts.• Assist with and manage complex regulatory proceedings, including rate cases, complaint proceedings, investigations, and rulemaking matters.• Draft and review legal pleadings, motions, briefs, testimony, and business documents.• Provide strategic legal advice to business units regarding utility regulations, compliance obligations, tariffs, and emerging regulatory developments.• Collaborate with internal clients, fellow attorneys, and outside counsel on regulatory and litigation matters.• Represent the company in mediation proceedings and customer dispute matters.• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the utility industry and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.• Manage multiple ongoing legal matters while meeting demanding regulatory and litigation deadlines.
What You'll Need:
• J.D. from an accredited law school.• 7 plus years of relevant in-house or law firm legal experience.• Admission to the West Virginia and/or Maryland Bar and in good standing.• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.• Ability to work effectively with professionals at all levels of an organization.• Strong initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail.• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.• Demonstrated willingness to learn new and complex legal and regulatory subject matters.• Prior experience with state public utility regulation, administrative law, or practice before state utility commissions is preferred.• Electric utility industry experience is helpful but not required.• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative legal team.
