Job Description
  • Evaluate residents for speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders using standardized and clinical assessment tools.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on residents’ needs, goals, and medical conditions.

  • Provide therapy to address issues such as dysphagia (swallowing), aphasia, dysarthria, voice disorders, and cognitive impairments.

  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans regularly based on progress, changes in condition, or interdisciplinary input.

  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians to ensure coordinated care.

  • Recommend and implement safe swallowing strategies and diet modifications to reduce aspiration risk.

  • Educate residents, families, and staff on communication strategies, swallowing precautions, and use of adaptive equipment.

  • Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge summaries in compliance with regulatory and facility guidelines.

  • Participate in care planning meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary team discussions.

  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations, including infection control and patient safety standards.

  • Train staff on communication techniques and feeding assistance as needed.

  • Support quality-of-life goals by helping residents maintain functional communication and safe oral intake.
