Position: Payroll Tax Consultant
Location: Denver, CO (hybrid, in-office)
Pay rate: $30.00 - $35.00 / Per Hour, based on experience
Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision and 401(k).
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Consultant to support a large-scale payroll tax cleanup, reconciliation, and compliance initiative across the U.S. and Canada. This is a hands-on contract role requiring deep multi-state payroll tax expertise, strong ADP experience, and the ability to work through complex tax discrepancies in a fast-paced environment.
Systems: Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, ADP SmartCompliance, Darwin, Excel
Responsibilities
Compliance Assessment & Filing
- Conduct a comprehensive payroll tax compliance review across all U.S. states and Canadian provinces
- Identify and resolve missing, inaccurate, or incomplete payroll tax filings and registrations
- File outstanding monthly, quarterly, and annual returns not currently supported or fully configured within ADP
- Ensure state-specific taxes including PFML, SDI, and transit taxes are properly set up and reported
ADP Configuration & Integration
- Partner with ADP and internal teams to ensure tax codes, deductions, and wage details are accurately transmitted and configured in ADP SmartCompliance
- Identify jurisdictions not yet set up in ADP and coordinate proper registration and configuration
- Monitor and resolve ADP tax exceptions, payroll tax notices, and agency correspondence
- Assist with agency portal access, account registrations, password resets, and multi-factor authentication transitions
Reconciliation & Tracking
- Maintain a comprehensive payroll tax tracker by jurisdiction and tax code
- Reconcile employee withholdings, employer liabilities, ADP withdrawals, tax filings, and agency payments
- Analyze payroll tax liability GL accounts to identify and resolve outstanding balances
- Research tax overpayments and coordinate refund or credit requests with taxing authorities
Process Improvement
- Recommend process improvements and establish a sustainable payroll tax compliance cadence going forward
- Document findings, gaps, and corrective actions taken across all jurisdictions
