Job Description
The Design Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight for the planning, design, and execution of complex semiconductor manufacturing facilities. This role serves as the primary engineering authority for multidisciplinary facility design projects supporting advanced semiconductor fabrication operations, ensuring designs meet operational, reliability, safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
The Design Lead collaborates closely with internal engineering teams, manufacturing operations, equipment engineering, construction management, and external design consultants to deliver world-class semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through all phases of facility design, including conceptual planning, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning.
• Provide technical leadership for semiconductor facility systems including:
- Cleanroom environments
- Mechanical systems (HVAC)
- Electrical power distribution
- Ultra Pure Water (UPW)
- Process Cooling Water (PCW)
- Chemical delivery systems
- Specialty gas distribution
- Process exhaust systems
- Waste treatment systems
• Establish engineering standards, design criteria, and best practices across facility projects.
• Serve as the technical decision-maker during design reviews and project execution.
Project Execution
• Lead engineering design efforts from concept through construction completion.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables between internal stakeholders and external engineering consultants.
• Ensure facility designs support current and future semiconductor manufacturing technologies.
• Manage design scope, schedule, budgets, and technical quality.
• Support procurement, construction, startup, commissioning, and system qualification activities.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout project execution.

• Lead interdisciplinary design reviews.
• Review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with:
- Building codes
- Environmental regulations
- Industry standards
- Semiconductor contamination control requirements
- Company engineering standards
• Drive continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives.
Mentorship & Leadership
• Mentor engineers and technical specialists.
• Provide technical guidance across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Promote engineering excellence, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
• Foster collaboration and accountability across project teams.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline preferred.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical facilities preferred.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor facility infrastructure systems.
• Demonstrated experience supporting large capital projects.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with semiconductor fabrication facilities.
• Knowledge of cleanroom design principles.
• Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities.
• Familiarity with BIM, AutoCAD, and engineering document management systems.
• Experience working with EPC firms and design consultants.
• Understanding of risk management, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
