Position Summary

The Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers by performing clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient daily operations. The successful candidate will provide excellent patient care while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Prepare patients for examinations and medical procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
  • Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers during examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing as permitted.
  • Administer injections, vaccinations, and medications under provider supervision.
  • Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and medical equipment.
  • Follow infection control and OSHA safety standards.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule appointments and coordinate patient follow-up.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and demographic information.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Process referrals, laboratory requests, and prescription refill requests.
  • Answer phones and assist patients professionally.

Patient Support

  • Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Promote adherence to medical appointments and treatment.
  • Provide culturally competent and trauma-informed care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.


Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, NCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Must be an experienced phlebotomist.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience (community health experience preferred).
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working with HIV/AIDS programs.
  • Experience serving LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of PrEP, PEP, STI testing, and HIV prevention services.
  • Experience working in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or community-based organizations.
