Material Handler
Location: Garland, TX (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $19.00/hour
Shifts Available:
- 1st Shift: Monday–Friday | 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking dependable and safety-focused Material Handlers for a contract-to-hire opportunity with one of our valued clients in Garland, TX. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing manufacturing environment where you'll play an essential role in warehouse operations, inventory management, and material movement.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Pay & Schedule
Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour
Available Shifts:
- 2nd Shift: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Location: Onsite – Garland, TX
Required PPE
Candidates must report on their first day wearing approved safety boots, including:
- Steel Toe or Composite Toe
- Must cover the ankle
- Leather style (minimum leather upper)
Candidates who do not arrive with the required footwear may not be permitted to begin work.
Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, moving, and shipping materials throughout the warehouse while maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting production operations. This position requires safely operating warehouse equipment, organizing inventory, and ensuring materials are available to meet customer and production needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Receive and unload incoming freight manually or using warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Inspect incoming shipments for damage, accuracy, and quality.
- Verify received materials against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.
- Pull and stage materials to fulfill production and customer orders.
- Wrap, package, and prepare outbound shipments.
- Organize warehouse inventory for maximum efficiency.
- Stock shelves and rotate inventory as needed.
- Deliver and retrieve materials from warehouse and production areas.
- Tag, label, and issue materials appropriately.
- Maintain accurate inventory records through data entry and inventory transactions.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs.
- Participate in cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse, loading, and storage areas.
- Open containers, sort, identify, and catalog incoming materials.
- Safely handle materials, including hazardous materials when required.
- Operate computers to access, enter, and update inventory information.
- Answer phones and provide inventory or material availability information when needed.
- Assist with damage claims documentation and inventory discrepancies.
- Coordinate disposal of surplus materials and maintain inventory records.
- Build positive working relationships with internal departments and customers.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, shipping documents, and inventory records.
- Knowledge of inventory control practices.
- Process improvement mindset.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to occasionally work overtime as business needs require.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English to understand safety instructions, work assignments, and job-related communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous warehouse, stockroom, or inventory experience.
- Experience operating a forklift and/or electric pallet jack.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with inventory management systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the workday.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, and climb as needed.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment.
- Must wear required PPE, including approved safety footwear, gloves, eye protection, and other safety equipment as required.
