Job Title: Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic provides efficient and effective maintenance support to ensure reliable production operations and a safe, clean work environment. This role delivers technical expertise in electrical, mechanical, electronic, and automation systems to support daily manufacturing activities and drive continuous improvement in production performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance support to internal and external customers while maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
  • Actively participate in department projects, tasks, and objectives to support production and maintenance goals.
  • Manage configuration and versions of programmable devices, hardware, and systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), vision camera systems, barcode scanners, intelligent sensors and devices, PC-based machine control systems, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical production equipment and building systems.
  • Use standard mechanics hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical test equipment such as multimeters to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Assist with equipment setup activities, including installation and setup of new machinery and supporting set up operators as needed.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve breakdowns of hydraulic, pneumatic, and high-voltage electrical systems without assistance.
  • Interpret and work from layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manuals, rough sketches, drawings, and verbal instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose CNC equipment, including control systems for numerically controlled machines and other controlled processes such as spot welding.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and calibration on CNC and related control equipment by disassembling components, repairing or replacing faulty parts, reassembling, and adjusting equipment.
  • Conduct operational tests to verify proper function and determine appropriate settings for timing and controls.
  • Follow strict safety procedures and critical facility work rules, including proper chemical handling practices, knowledge of local codes, and safe operation of cooling systems and chillers.
  • Handle chemicals safely and maintain accurate knowledge and use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Apply safe work practices consistently and adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Ensure the work area remains clean, organized, and free of safety hazards at all times.
  • Complete all required safety program objectives and training within specified timeframes.
  • Contribute actively to cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement programs within the maintenance and production environment.
  • Maintain high ethical standards, personal and intellectual integrity, and sound judgment in all aspects of the role.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including operators, team leads, engineers, and cross-functional personnel.
  • Work independently with a high degree of quality and reliability to ensure equipment operates within required specifications.
  • Interface with incoming and outgoing shifts to pass down critical information and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Utilize PC-based tools, including Microsoft Office and email, for documentation, communication, and reporting.
  • Perform other related maintenance and engineering activities as needed to support production and facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with automation equipment, including configuration and version management of PLCs, vision camera systems, barcode scanners, intelligent sensors and devices, PC-based machine control systems, and SCADA-level systems.
  • Strong electrical maintenance skills with the ability to troubleshoot and repair high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Solid mechanical maintenance experience, including troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose CNC equipment and perform maintenance, repair, and calibration on CNC control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including independent troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficiency with standard mechanics hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical test equipment such as multimeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret layout plans, blueprints, operating and repair manuals, rough sketches, and technical drawings.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and electrical and mechanical fault finding in a production environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with operators, team leads, engineers, and cross-functional personnel.
  • Capability to work independently with a high degree of quality, reliability, and ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to use a PC and email for communication and documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds manually and repetitively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to safe work practices, including knowledge and application of LOTO procedures, proper chemical handling, and adherence to safety rules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Twenty-four to thirty-six months of trade school or equivalent experience in industrial maintenance or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in an industrial multi-craft maintenance environment is highly desirable.
  • Background in CNC equipment repair and maintenance is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with cooling systems and chillers, including safe operation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of local codes related to electrical and mechanical systems in an industrial setting.
  • Experience working in a fairly large maintenance team environment and collaborating across shifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives in manufacturing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across departments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment that is very clean and well maintained. The facility is not temperature controlled, so conditions may vary with the seasons. The maintenance team operates across multiple shifts, including first shift (approximately 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), second shift (approximately 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), and third shift (approximately 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday). Standard workdays are Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work depending on production needs. The environment includes exposure to CNC machines, automation equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and various industrial tools and test equipment. Safety is a core priority, with structured safety programs, required training, and strict adherence to safe work practices, including LOTO and proper chemical handling using SDS documentation. The culture encourages a clean, orderly workspace and offers a friendly atmosphere with periodic casual dress events such as Hawaiian shirt Fridays.
