Description\n

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with 2+ years of ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience for a 13-week night shift contract at an acute care hospital in Princeton, WV.

  • Acute care hospital setting with 127 total inpatient beds
  • \n
  • Respiratory Therapy department covers all inpatient areas, the ED, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopies in a procedural setting
  • \n
  • Patient population is primarily adult, with a pediatric inpatient unit and a family birthing unit (no C-sections)
  • \n
  • ICU can have up to 8–9 ventilated patients at one time; therapists may handle 40–70 treatments per shift
  • \n
  • Therapists may be called to initiate CPAP on infants
  • \n
  • Charting via Expanse (hCare EMR)
  • \n
  • Respiratory therapy equipment includes Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea, BiPAP V60, and Vapotherm for high flow
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts (1845–0715)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required; facility is open to travelers interested in weekend-only schedules
  • \n
  • Holidays: only Christmas and New Year's; if the holiday falls on a scheduled workday, it will be worked
  • \n
  • No on-call or standby call requirement
  • \n
  • Floating within the facility only
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, and inpatient adult settings
  • \n
  • Pediatric experience preferred; facility is willing to train on peds
  • \n
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), CRT (via NBRC), NRP, PALS, and STABLE
  • \n
  • RRT (via NBRC) preferred in lieu of CRT
  • \n
  • Pediatric or neonatal experience is not required, but NRP certification is still mandatory
  • \n
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • \n
  • A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
  • \n
  • License required if applicable
  • \n
  • Any licensing hits must be disclosed
  • \n
Additional Information\n
    \n
  • Responsibilities include breathing treatments, ventilator management, ABG draws and analysis, and EKG coverage for assigned areas
  • \n
  • Therapists assist with intubation but are not required to intubate independently
  • \n
  • Core RTs may place arterial lines, but travelers are not expected to perform this skill
  • \n
  • Travelers will not be required to perform critical care transport outside of the facility
  • \n
  • Travelers are not required to cover the Sleep Lab, Pulmonary Rehab, or Cardiac Rehab areas
  • \n
  • The department uses a points system to assign coverage areas, with an effort to distribute workload evenly
  • \n
  • A lead therapist or supervisor is always available for support
  • \n
  • Orientation consists of general orientation on day one, classroom orientation and modules on day two, followed by approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor; all travelers begin on inpatient units
  • \n
  • The facility will conduct a second interview and may assess skills on-site to determine appropriate assignments
  • \n
  • Scrub color is open; professional appearance required — no long nails, and men must be clean-shaven
  • \n
  • Open ICU with 2 on-staff pulmonologists and 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage
