Responsibilities:

As a Respiratory Therapist, your responsibilities include:

  • Assess, treat, and monitor residents with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions.

  • Administer respiratory treatments including oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulizer treatments, and medication administration as ordered.

  • Manage and monitor ventilator-dependent residents in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.

  • Perform routine ventilator checks, troubleshooting, and documentation.

  • Assist with tracheostomy care including suctioning, trach changes (as permitted), and emergency airway management.

  • Monitor residents for changes in respiratory status and communicate findings promptly to physicians and nursing staff.

  • Obtain and interpret pulse oximetry, capnography, and other respiratory assessments as appropriate.

  • Educate residents, families, and staff regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, and disease management.

  • Ensure respiratory equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and functioning safely.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning meetings.

  • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges involving residents requiring respiratory services.

  • Respond appropriately to respiratory emergencies and participate in CPR and emergency response activities.

  • Follow all infection prevention, safety, OSHA, CMS, and state regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain the dignity, privacy, and comfort of every resident while delivering high-quality respiratory care.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, therapy, and other disciplines to optimize resident outcomes.

Qualifications:
  • Current State License as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT, as applicable).

  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

  • Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, ventilator, sub-acute, or critical care preferred.

  • Knowledge of ventilator management, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, and respiratory equipment.

  • Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
