General Surgery Physician Assistant

Seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to provide a combination of Surgical First Assist operating room coverage and inpatient surgical floor management. The provider will primarily support General Surgery, Orthopedics, and OB/GYN services, with optional call responsibilities.

Compensation: Hourly - $145/hr, 24-Hour Call - $950 per 24 hours, Night Call - $320/shift, Call Back - $210/hr.

Schedule

Start Date: September 28, 2026

Assignment Length: 26 weeks

Standard Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Must be available September 28 – October 9

Orientation preferred during the week prior to October 1

Optional Call

Weekend Call:

Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM

Weekend rounding: Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Weeknight Call:

Approximately 4 shifts per month

5:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Responsibilities

Serve as Surgical First Assist in the operating room

Assist with:

Cauterizing wounds and vessels

Hemostasis

Suction, drainage, and irrigation

Wound closure with sutures, staples, or adhesives

Positioning and patient stabilization

Retraction and exposure

Provide inpatient surgical floor coverage including:

Daily rounding

Progress notes

Orders

Consultations

Discharges

Support General Surgery, Orthopedic, and OB/GYN services

109-bed hospital

Adult patient population

Patient ratio: 1:10–15

Staff includes:

1 Physician

1 Nurse Practitioner

1 LPN

Dedicated anesthesia support in the OR

Weekend call may include:

Cesarean sections

Hip fracture cases

EMR: Epic

Requirements

Board Certified Physician Assistant

Active New York license

Minimum of 2 years of recent surgical experience

Epic experience required

Robotic surgery experience required

Orthopedic surgery experience strongly preferred

BLS (AHA)

ACLS (AHA)

ATLS

Additional Information

Orientation before October 1 is strongly preferred to become familiar with orthopedic and obstetric workflows before weekend call

Candidate must provide an up-to-date, agency-branded CV with no unexplained employment gaps greater than 30 days
