Job Summary

The CNC Machinist II is responsible for independently setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machining centers to manufacture precision components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This position requires a solid understanding of machining principles, blueprint reading, tooling, and inspection techniques. The CNC Machinist II works with minimal supervision while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other CNC equipment for production and prototype work.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, process sheets, and work instructions.
  • Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets.
  • Edit CNC programs at the machine as needed to optimize performance and maintain part quality.
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators.
  • Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain equipment in clean, safe working condition.
  • Accurately document production, quality inspections, and machine data.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with training and mentoring CNC Machinist I employees and machine operators.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and reduce downtime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree or certification in CNC machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
  • 3–5 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and CNC machine controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Siemens, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and interpreting GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience machining tight-tolerance components.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Experience with multiple-axis CNC machines is a plus.
  • Ability to assist with process improvements and tooling optimization.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with machine noise, cutting fluids, and metal chips.
