Project Engineer (Civil)
Position Summary
The Project Engineer is a mid-to-senior level technical role responsible for the design and development of transportation infrastructure projects. This position focuses on delivering high-quality design plans, specifications, and calculations while supporting project managers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong transportation experience who contributes as a senior technical resource without direct project management or Engineer of Record responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and develop roadway and transportation design plans in accordance with IDOT standards, manuals, and procedures
· Perform engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and design documentation for various project phases (Phase I/II/III as applicable)
· Apply IDOT design criteria including geometric design, drainage, maintenance of traffic, and specifications
· Coordinate with internal team members, including project managers, CAD staff, and other discipline engineers
· Review and check design work prepared by junior engineers and technicians for accuracy and compliance
· Assist in the preparation of project deliverables, reports, and contract documents
· Participate in IDOT coordination meetings and respond to agency comments as needed
· Support project schedules and deliverable deadlines through efficient design production
· Maintain familiarity with current IDOT policies, manuals, and evolving standards

Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
· Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Illinois preferred)
· 6+ years of experience in transportation or roadway design
· Strong experience with IDOT policies, procedures, and project delivery requirements
· Proficiency in design software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D)
· Solid understanding of roadway design, drainage, and construction documentation
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
