Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description

The Material Handler works under general supervision to receive, issue, handle, and accurately account for inventory in both storage areas and the yard. This role focuses on pulling and staging parts for in-house jobs, completing computer-based inventory transactions, and clearly communicating any inventory exceptions or shortages to other departments to keep production running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Pull, stage, and issue parts to jobs for assembly departments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prioritize job parts based on the production schedule and work center utilization to support on-time manufacturing.
  • Maintain and update an Exceptions Board to clearly communicate material shortages and status updates to relevant departments.
  • Intercept inbound shipments from internal and external suppliers to quickly address and resolve job shortages.
  • Utilize available storage space efficiently and maintain accurate bin locations for all inventory items.
  • Assist in determining appropriate storage sizes and bin locations for parts purchased or built in economic batch quantities (EBQs).
  • Assist in maintaining a clear labeling system to ensure proper identification and traceability of all inventory items.
  • Review and maintain SYSPRO data to ensure inventory records are accurate and up to date.
  • Investigate inventory variances and take appropriate corrective actions, including performing inventory transfers, back flushing, job manipulation, and inventory adjustments.
  • Report bill of materials (BOM) errors or other discrepancies to supervisors, operations management, or engineering personnel for resolution.
  • Perform stock takes and cycle counts as requested to verify on-hand inventory and support accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and operations management to review and recommend changes to EBQs and safety stock levels.
  • Use internal ERP systems and related computer tools to complete inventory tracking, stocking, picking, packing, and shipping transactions.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and RF scanners, to safely move, pick, and stage inventory.
  • Support shipping, order picking, and inventory-related activities as needed to meet production and customer requirements.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of material handling experience.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all inventory-related tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Experience working with internal ERP systems for inventory and job management.
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of inventory tracking and stocking systems.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling, picking, packing, and order picking.
  • Experience using RF scanners for inventory and order processing.
  • Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate forklifts and pallet jacks in a safe manner.
  • Familiarity with shipping, inventory, and basic warehouse procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly relay shortages, discrepancies, and inventory issues to other departments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Forklift or pallet jack experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Prior shipping or inventory control experience in a warehouse or production setting.
  • Assembly or other manufacturing experience in an industrial environment.
  • Experience using SYSPRO or similar ERP systems for inventory management.
  • Comfort working with bills of materials (BOMs) and reporting discrepancies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Work Environment

The work environment is a spacious, clean, and industrial sheet metal manufacturing shop with a variety of machines, tools, and equipment in operation. Approximately 50 people work in the shop across multiple departments, fostering a collaborative production setting. The role involves working on the shop floor with active material handling equipment and industrial processes, so appropriate industrial attire and safety gear are expected. The standard schedule follows a four 10-hour day format, typically Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility in start time as needed to support operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
