Job Title: Weekend Night Shift Tool & Die Apprentice / CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to work as a Tool & Die Apprentice, Journeyman, or CNC Machinist on a weekend night shift, operating a variety of CNC and manual equipment in a high-volume stamping and roll forming environment. You will set up and run CNC Haas mills and lathes, perform precision machining with tight tolerances, and support tooling and die work in a large, well-equipped maintenance and tool & die shop. This position is ideal for an experienced CNC machinist who wants to expand their skills and work with advanced automated and robotic CNC lines.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and adjust CNC milling machines and lathes, including CNC Haas machining centers, to produce precision components.
  • Perform machine setup activities such as change outs, offsets, and tooling adjustments to support efficient production.
  • Operate and monitor a range of equipment including surface grinders, milling machines, lathes, drill presses, belt sanders, saws, hoists, clamps, and forklifts when necessary.
  • Work with stamping and roll forming dies, including handling and positioning dies weighing up to approximately 8,000 pounds using appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, including prints with up to 100 dimensions, to ensure parts meet all specified requirements.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify adherence to tight tolerances up to +/- .005.
  • Apply knowledge of G and M codes to adjust programs, change tooling, and make offset adjustments as needed to maintain part quality.
  • Support the layout, building, servicing, and repair of tools, dies, and fixtures as experience allows.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the maintenance and tool & die shop.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to troubleshoot machining or tooling issues and continuously improve processes.
  • Adapt to working with new CNC automated and robotic lines as they are installed and integrated into production.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5+ years of CNC machinist experience working with mills and lathes.
  • At least 4+ years of experience in setup, change outs, offsets, and operation of CNC milling machinery.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC Haas machining centers.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed blueprints, including prints with a high number of dimensions.
  • Strong ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Experience working with tight tolerances up to +/- .005.
  • Solid understanding of G and M codes to change tooling and make offset adjustments.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working in a stamping and roll forming environment with heavy dies and industrial equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 4+ years of tool and die maker experience.
  • Ability to layout, build, service, and repair tools, dies, and fixtures.
  • Journeyman card in machining or tool and die.
  • Roll forming experience in a production or maintenance setting.
  • Interest in working with new CNC automated and robotic lines and learning advanced machining technologies.
