Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Blaine, MN (Minneapolis Area)
Job Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $120,000 - $160,000

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to take the lead on cutting-edge automation projects in the medical device and life sciences industry? We're partnering with an industry leader in custom automation that is expanding its engineering team and looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership on highly engineered automation systems.
This is an opportunity to influence product design, mentor engineers, and work on complex automation equipment from concept through manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of custom automated equipment.
  • Serve as the technical lead on multiple engineering projects from proposal through production.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
  • Develop engineering standards, best practices, and design documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations, risk assessments, and design analysis.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, and project management teams.
  • Support project estimating, vendor selection, and technical sales activities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help drive continuous improvement across the engineering organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably in custom automation or special machinery.
  • Strong machine design experience with automated equipment.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and material selection.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and FEA analysis.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic system design and machine safety.
  • Experience developing detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to lead projects while collaborating across multiple departments.
Preferred Experience
  • Medical device, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing automation.
  • GAMP documentation.
  • AutoCAD or DraftSight.
  • SolidWorks PDM/EPDM.
  • MathCAD.
  • ISO 9001 environment.
  • Engineering leadership or mentoring experience.
  • PE license is a plus.
