The Civil Engineer Supervisor with the Department of Transportation offers the chance to lead important highway and bridge projects that serve our District every day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role focuses on overseeing construction projects and applying engineering judgment to ensure work meets plans, standards, and safety requirements. You will be tasked with guiding inspection activities, solving engineering problems, and coordinating with many partners throughout each project. As a Civil Engineer Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:
- Project Oversight: Supervise construction activities and confirm work meets approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements
- Engineering Guidance: Apply engineering principles to review designs, recommend changes, and resolve technical challenges
- Inspection Management: Direct inspection of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with established standards
- Coordination Work: Collaborate with municipalities, utilities, contractors, and other groups to address project issues
- Documentation Review: Prepare reports, work orders, estimates, and project records to track progress and compliance
- Team Leadership: Plan, assign, and evaluate work of staff while supporting training and professional development
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- These positions require travel to project sites throughout Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Pike Counties.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Five years of civil engineering experience and an Engineer-In-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- One year of civil engineering experience in highway design, construction or maintenance related projects and a bachelor's degree with major course work in civil engineering.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
