Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Critical Care Unit (ICU) night shift position requiring prior travel experience, Epic proficiency, and the ability to manage high-acuity patients including substance abuse and mental health populations.

  • Acute care hospital setting in a 24-bed Critical Care Unit (ICU)
  • \n
  • High-acuity patient population including CVA/TPA, AAA, MI, hypertension, overdose, ETOH/detox with Precedex, Whipples, GI bleed, ECMO, external temporary pacers, A-fib RVR, and septic shock
  • \n
  • Significant volume of complex homeless, substance abuse, and mental health patients
  • \n
  • Patient ratios: ICU 1:2 or 1:1 based on acuity; IMCU days 1:3, nights 1:4; floating to tele or IMCU may result in a 1:5 ratio
  • \n
  • All rooms equipped with Philips IntelliVue monitoring; monitor techs are available but nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • \n
  • All drips are titrated by nursing staff
  • \n
  • Ventilator management includes Avea vents (RT-based in ICU) and BiPAP in IMCU; RT is centered out of the CCU and available 24/7
  • \n
  • Hospitalist coverage is available in-house 24/7
  • \n
  • IV team available 7:00 AM–8:30 PM (nurses must attempt IV access first); Nurse Resource available 24/7 for IV assistance 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
  • \n
  • Pharmacy is on the unit during the day; RT performs EKGs 24/7 and ABGs (nurses may also draw ABGs)
  • \n
  • Charge nurse present; charge nurses typically do not carry a patient assignment
  • \n
  • Nurse aides available at a 1:8 ratio
  • \n
  • Smart room technology and ceiling lifts in use
  • \n
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts with a 7:00 AM start/end time (4x12s per week)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required
  • \n
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday
  • \n
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • \n
  • 13-week contract
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active CT or Compact RN license required
  • \n
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care nursing experience required
  • \n
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • \n
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • \n
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
  • \n
  • Strong customer service skills, empathy, and the ability to work with difficult, high-acuity patient populations required
  • \n
  • Must be a strong team player with flexibility and compassion
  • \n

  • 2-shift unit-specific orientation provided (8 orientation hours total)
  • \n
  • Floating to telemetry or IMCU may be required
  • \n
  • Scrub color: Caribbean blue top (black or white shirts permitted underneath); pants may be Caribbean blue or black — top layer must be the uniform color
  • \n
  • No RTO (requested time off) within the first two weeks of the start date; minimal RTO throughout the contract
  • \n
  • Cannot be employed at another job concurrently while on this assignment
  • \n
