Summary Job Description:
The Nursing Assistant supports the nursing team by assisting with care of a group of children residing in an agency-operated facility, monitoring health concerns, maintaining medical supplies, and helping to facilitate daily medical operations. The role ensures that youth receive basic health support in alignment with OCFS, DOH, and agency protocols. Work requires dealing with children with emotional problems and the employee is expected to handle all situations in a calm and effective manner. The Nursing Assistant contributes to a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all residents.

About Little Flower
Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a human services nonprofit supporting the well-being of children, youth, families, and individuals across New York City and Long Island since 1929.
Our staff of more than 500 builds well-being by providing prevention services, foster care, residential treatment care, adoption services, programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, and medical and mental health services.

Principle Responsibilities
• Assist nurses with basic resident care including monitoring and general comfort support within scope of practice
• Support nursing workflows such as medication administration, and medical clinics including documentation preparation and youth monitoring under nursing supervision
• Maintain medical rooms, supplies, equipment, and cleanliness standards including ordering and stocking supplies and doing occasional laundry
• Escort residents to appointments, internal clinics, or external providers as needed
• Support infection control procedures and safety protocols
• Assist with documentation tasks including filing, preparing packets, and updating records under supervision
• Communicate resident concerns promptly to nursing staff
• Support health education activities and wellness routines under nursing supervision
• Respond to routine and urgent needs under direction of a nurse

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma required
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing
  • Ability to follow instructions, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively with youth and other medical team members including doctors
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety practices
  • Upon hire, Nursing Assistants must attend and pass Little Flower sponsored TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) Training within 90 days. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment.
  • Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, computer skills necessary to record observations and monitor reports
  • Ability to gain and hold the confidence of the children and to maintain a sympathetic and understanding attitude towards them.
  • Ability to understand and follow the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the care and safety of children under care.
  • Ability to keep routine records and to make oral and written reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or adolescents preferred

Travel Requirements
This position offers a full-time, in-person schedule and does require local travel.
