Job Description
Organize and maintain records: File and retrieve patient records in both paper and electronic formats (Sigma)
Process admissions/discharges: Handle paperwork including consent forms, insurance documents, and discharge summaries
Data entry and updates: Input demographic, medical history, and treatment data into patient charts
Record accuracy: Review and correct records for completeness and compliance with regulations
Confidentiality: Protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA and employer policies
Chart management: Prepare charts for appointments, monitor chart flow, and maintain secure tracking when records are out of the medical records room
Communication: Respond to patient inquiries about records and coordinate with healthcare staff for information needs
Quality control: Participate in chart review committees and implement record-keeping quality measures
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or certification in health information technology, medical terminology, or related fields is preferred
Experience: Prior experience in a medical office or healthcare setting; familiarity with Sigma software
Skills:
Proficiency in computer systems and office software
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and release of information policies
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
