Commercial Plumbing Estimator Requirements & Qualifications

• 3-10+ years of commercial plumbing estimating experience or strong field-to-estimating progression
• Ability to read and interpret commercial construction plans and specifications
• Working knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, code requirements, and installation methods
• Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software
• Comfortable using Excel for estimate workflows
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills
• Excellent communication, able to collaborate with both field and project management teams

Commercial Plumbing Estimator Preferred Background & Skills

• Experience with Trimble AutoBid and Bluebeam Revu
• Prior background in both field and office roles within commercial plumbing

Commercial Plumbing Estimator Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive takeoffs from plans and specifications for plumbing scopes, including sanitary, storm, domestic water, gas, medical gas, and fixtures
• Develop accurate, detailed cost estimates covering material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
• Review bid documents to identify scope, exclusions, addenda, and risks prior to submission
• Solicit pricing from suppliers and specialty subcontractors, evaluating for best value
• Build realistic labor budgets by applying appropriate crew blends and productivity factors
• Prepare and submit clear, competitive proposals and bid packages within deadlines
• Coordinate handoff of awarded projects to operations with thorough breakdowns and scope summaries
• Track bid results and refine estimating practices based on project outcomes
