Job Description

About This Role

The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher plays a pivotal role in shaping a supportive, stimulating, and well-organized learning environment. Collaborating closely with the Lead Teacher, this position assists with curriculum implementation, daily routines, and classroom organization to ensure a safe, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for all children.

Assistant Teachers possess a deep understanding of children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, using this knowledge to design engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. They foster a warm, motivating environment where toddlers can explore, build confidence, and develop independence.

Strong communication and teamwork are fundamental to this role. Assistant Teachers build trusting relationships with children, families, and team members, follow the guidance of the Lead Teacher, and partner with families to support each child's success.

  • Support the lead teacher by modeling best practices, assisting team members, and contributing to a positive, collaborative classroom environment to ensure consistent implementation of routines and safety practices.
  • Assist in implementing engaging classroom curriculum using developmentally appropriate practices that actively engage children and support their social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development.
  • Observe, document, and assess development under the guidance of the lead teacher.
  • Perform daily caregiving routines including diapering, toileting assistance, handwashing, and feeding in accordance with health, sanitation, and safety guidelines.
  • Help build partnerships with families by communicating daily updates, supporting progress tracking, and assisting with parent–teacher interactions as directed by the lead teacher.
  • Assist in maintaining daily classroom operations that meet Colorado licensing, health, and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to a healthy, safe, and nurturing classroom environment by supporting hygiene, cleanliness, supervision, and security standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in daily job assignments and classroom responsibilities, willingly adjusting duties and schedules as needed to support classroom operations, staffing needs, and the overall success of the program.
  • Maintain an active and accurate Professional Development Information System (PDIS) account, ensuring all required trainings, credentials, and documentation are current and in compliance with state licensing and quality improvement requirements.
  • Actively pursue 15 hours of ongoing professional development each year and maintain a personal growth plan to support continuous quality improvement.
